A Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) is needed for exterior changes to properties in Druid Hills.  These include changes to structures e.g. additions/enclosures, window/door replacements, porches, decks, new construction, and demolition as well as changes to landscape e.g. fences/walls, driveways/parking pads, and major plantings.

How to Apply DeKalb County:  Contact the DeKalb Preservation Planner at 404-371-2155.  Office is located in the DeKalb Planning Department, 330 West Ponce de Leon Avenue, Suite 500, Decatur 30030.  The COA application can be downloaded from the DeKalb County government website planning page: www.co.dekalb.ga.us/planning/mainPage.html  click on “Applications and Forms” at top of page and then "historic preservation" on right.

DeKalb Historic District Guidelines.   Available online on the DeKalb County government website planning page:  www.co.dekalb.ga.us/planning/mainPage.html  Click on “Historic Preservation” on left side.  The Guidelines are on the right side of the page. Copies of the Design Manual for the Druid Hills Local Historic District( the Druid Hills Historic District Guidelines) can be purchased at Kinko’s on North Decatur Road at Clairmont. 

DHCA HelpLine.   Need help with your COA?  Not sure how to proceed?  The DeKalb review committee is available to help you with the COA process.  The Committee is made up of volunteers who have experience with how the COA system works. If you would like to receive assistance, please call 404-523-DHCA or e-mail dekalbhistoric@druidhills.org and leave your name, phone number and a brief description of the project.  A member of the committee will get in touch with you. We are available to help you make sure your application is complete and to share our knowledge of how the Guidelines might apply to your project.  (Please note:  receiving assistance from the committee does not guarantee that your project will be approved by the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission.
