A Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) is needed for exterior changes to properties in Druid Hills.  These include changes to structures e.g. additions/enclosures, window/door replacements, porches, decks, new construction, demolition as well as changes to landscape e.g. fences/walls, driveways/parking pads, major plantings, and tree removal (more than 4 inches caliper).

How to apply Atlanta:  Contact the Atlanta Urban Design Commission at 404-330-6200.  Office is located in Suite 3400 (3rd floor) of Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, SW, Atlanta 30303.

Note:  There are 4 types of COAs.  Type I is for repair and maintenance (no change of materials) and is handled by staff administratively; Type II is for minor alterations; Type III is for major alterations; and Type IV is for demolition.

Atlanta Landmark District Regulations.   Available online on the City of Atlanta website (www.atlantaga.gov) by going to the Atlanta Urban Design Commission page.  (Click on Boards and Commissions, then AUDC and look for District Regulations.) This page also gives detailed information about the application process and applications, which can be downloaded.
