The Chair leads the members of the Committee in carrying out the Committee's mission: educating residents/neighbors about the City of Atlanta Druid Hills Landmark District regulations and standing up for them at Urban Design Commission hearings. On-site meetings are held with owners and/or their architects/other representatives either once an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) is made or before. A Committee Comment, arrived at by consensus, is sent to the UDC with copy to the applicant. The Committee shares the task of notification of on-sites and writing of Comments but the Chair is the central force: applicants can reach the Chair through the DHCA website e-mail address or the UDC's "Neighborhood Contacts" page on that website. The Chair also reports to the DHCA board as appropriate at meetings. Generally only controversial or difficult matters are reported. (Comments are based on the regulations that make up the Druid Hills LD ordinance, Chapter 20B of the zoning code. Any advice is based on experience with applications and the UDC - over 20 years.) The First VP, to whom the Committee is responsible, is copied on notices of on-sites.
