Neighborhood Safety

DHCA's Neighborhood Public Safety Committee addresses crime plus pedestrian and transportation safety within Druid Hills.

identifying trends.

While Druid Hills is considered a relatively safe neighborhood in urban Atlanta, crimes do take place from time to time. Beginning in May 2018, the Druid Hills Civic Association’s Public Safety Committee has been tracking all crimes reported in Druid Hills. We compile reports, look for trends, and share prevention suggestions.

neighborhood watch program.

DHCA organizes an informal neighborhood watch program. Our street captains organize contact information for residents on their street so they can stay connected, and easily communicate with one another. Our captains also relay DHCA's safety information to their neighbors.

Please Note: Druid Hills Patrol is a separate non-profit membership organization that hires off-duty police officers to patrol our community and supplement services provided by the Atlanta and DeKalb County police departments. We highly recommend joining this valuable organization.

reporting issues.

Our Public Safety Committee is in touch with representatives at DeKalb County and Georgia Departments of Transportation. It is our goal to provide neighborhood input and influence their projects in our community.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil! It can take a few reports or calls to get utility or transportation safety issues addressed. Here are a few frequently requested contacts.

As anyone who lives in Druid Hills knows, we are lucky to have so many streets with sidewalks, making our neighborhood a great place for getting outdoors for a walk or a run.  Over time, however, all sidewalks need upkeep, and you'll notice stretches of sidewalk that are broken, crumbled and uneven.  This presents both an aesthetic and, more importantly, a safety hazard.

Sidewalk Strides is a matching fund program, available to any homeowner who is a current member of the DHCA. Owners who choose to have their Historic Druid Hills sidewalks repaired can apply to the DHCA for up to $500 in matching funds to have the work done.

residential parking permits

Residential parking permit process now online

The DeKalb County Transportation Division is implementing a new online application process for residential permit parking starting this month. Click here for more info. This pertains to streets like those near Emory and Druid Hills High School to prevent undesired public parking. Just a reminder that a vehicle parked in a Residential Permit Parking area during restricted times must display either a decal or a visitor hang tag for that parking district.
